Partner Andy Smith is taking to the skies later this month to bravely embark on a tandem skydive. He’s doing the challenge alongside his daughter Kathryn, who has already completed a couple of jumps already, but wanted to do one with her Dad.
“I have always enjoyed adventure activities and the adrenaline rush these give,” explains Andy. “In the past I have been up in a glider a couple of times, taken a balloon ride, driven a Lamborghini and Aston Martin around Brands Hatch, parasailed and been in a microlite.”
Every time he’d seen a tandem skydive on television, Andy had said he’d love to give it a go.
“I guess you have to be careful what you wish for… as I was presented with this as a present by my wife for my birthday earlier in the year,” says Andy. “Kathryn wanted to do it with me and, this time, in aid of Cancer Research UK, as a member of our family is currently undergoing treatment.”
Weather permitting, Andy and Kathryn’s skydive will take place in Salisbury on Sunday 21 July. It is from 15,000ft (the highest allowed in the UK); they will freefall to 5,000ft when the parachute will open (Andy hopes!). This means they will freefall for about 60 seconds before a gentle decent by parachute.
